The 18-month-old Aberdeen-Angus bull Rawburn Black Bush S420, bred by John Elliot, has been sold to Cogent Breeding,

to join the company’s beef portfolio.

Imported as an embryo from Canada, he is a son of Bushs Strut 756 and out of DBRL Blackbird 2N – a unique

outcross pedigree for the UK, with the dam coming from the famous Coldstream Blackbird 9Y line.

Black Bush boasts an impressive set of figures, ranked in the top 1% of the breed for Terminal Index,

Self Replacing Index, 400-day growth and eye muscle.

Breeder John Elliot, who runs 200 Angus cows at Roxburgh Mains, Kelso, and will be using two maternal brothers in the herd this year, said: “‘Black Bush’s performance data is exceptional. Rarely does a bull with such good calving ease have

such impressive growth and carcass attributes. We look forward to using him in our own herd’s AI programme this summer”

Speaking of the purchase, Cogent’s beef specialist Boomer Birch said: ‘”There has been a lot of talk about this bull over the past few months, and we have been very lucky to purchase him. Black Bush is the complete package – offering phenotype and statistical quality, which is a very rare coupling. We cannot wait to be able to offer this exciting sire to our customers.”
